Greg Billo and Chas Byrne teamed up for a six-hit shutout, and Fred Ford and Mark Donato each homered as the Lexington Legends blanked the Greenville Drive 5-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.
Boss Moanaroa’s sixth-inning homer was the only run in the second game as the Drive took a 1-0 win. The home run was also the first hit in the game for Greenville off Legends’ starter Matt Murray.
Ford’s two-run homer in the second inning of the first game, his team-leading 12th home run of the year, put the Legends up 2-0. Lexington added a run in the third inning on Hunter Dozier’s RBI single, and another in the fourth when Ford walked and came around to score on three wild pitches.
Donato’s sixth homer of the year with one out in the sixth inning closed out the scoring.
Billo (2-2) pitched the first five innings and got the win. Byrne allowed one hit over the final two innings.
Greenville starter Sergio Gomez (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
Greenville reliever Kyle Martin (1-1), who entered the game in the sixth inning, picked up the win in the second game.
Murray (1-4), who allowed two hits in six innings, was the losing pitcher. He struck out seven batters and walked none.
The Legends still trail Augusta by three games in the South Atlantic League Southern Division standings. Augusta split its doubleheader with Savannah.
The Legends will wrap up their four-game series in Greenville Monday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
