Leonel Santiago and two relievers combined for a five-hit shutout as the Lexington Legends took a 3-0 victory over the West Virginia Power Thursday night in Charleston.
Santiago (1-0) worked the first seven innings. He allowed five hits, no rusn, walked two batters and struck out three.
The Legends scored a run in the top of the third on a walk to Raul Mondesi and a double by Mark Threlkeld.
The 1-0 lead lasted until the eighth, when the Legends added two runs, one scoring on a two-out single by Cam Gallagher, and the other coming home when Fred Ford’s grounder got past third baseman Eric Wood for an error.
Game two of the four-game series will be played Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
