The University of Louisville football program has encountered a number of changes over the last four years, but the latest transformation is affecting the Cardinals' game day surface.
After 10 years of the original turf playing surface, the Cardinals' football field is receiving a facelift. Louisville is in the process of laying down a new FieldTurf surface. The company installed the pitch in 2003, replacing the natural grass that was laid when the stadium was built in 1998.
The Cardinals are replacing the surface with new FieldTurf, highlighted by graphical changes on the field. The Cardinal bird logo at midfield will replace the winged Cardinal bird and the end zones will be colored in black with red lettering.
The FieldTurf crew began the transformation on April 15 and they have laid down most of the turf as of Monday. The field is expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks.
