Dominique Hawkins scored 25 points as Madison Central beat Wayne County 81-56 in the first round of the Kentucky boys' Sweet 16 basketball tournament Wednesday.
Hawkins, a 6-foot-1 senior, hit 11 of 17 from the floor on mostly layups and jumpers as the Indians (29-5) dismantled Wayne County.
Quan Taylor added 13 points and 15 rebounds for Madison Central, which advanced to a second-round game against the winner of Wednesday's Holmes-Pleasure Ridge Park game.
The Cardinals (27-8) were within 13-9 with 2 1/2 minutes to play in the first quarter, but the 11th Region champion Indians pulled out to an eight-point lead at the quarter's end.
Madison Central had a 15-2 run over the final four minutes of the second quarter, including a Ken-Jah Bosley 50-foot runner as time expired.
Peyton Woods led Wayne County, the 12th Region champs, with 14 points.
