...was given to me yesterday by my dear friend, John Slavey. It is a simple, unassuming U.S.A. made Best China model EE coffee cup by the Homer Laughlin company. It is thicker than today's modern cups and it holds about half what they do...but this cup has a story. Years ago, downtown Somerset had full service gas stations and diners and stores. The Slavey's had the Gulf station on the corner next to the old Methodist Church. Next to the Gulf station and attached to the wall of Ramsey's...was a little burger joint called the Krystal Kitchen. Hamburgers were a nickel. It later became the A & R Grill but...when it was the Krystal Kitchen...they served coffee in cups just like the one Mr. Slavey presented to me. In fact...his cup to me IS a cup from the old Krystal Kitchen. I'm looking forward to my first cup of "go go juice" this morning...and every morning. Merry Christmas everyone! Merry Christmas!
